Wizard Rock was a fun trend to be involved in while we were still anxiously waiting for the last book and sharing theories...but, in my humble opinion, it's run its course and has grown a bit stale. Not to mention the fact that the site for which I was maSCOTin' for (heh...it's a pun, get it?) has long since jumped the shark and there are simply too many wizard rock bands out there to enjoy this as a novelty genre (its no fun when you take music about wizards and owls and giants too seriously).
That being said, I'm packing my bags and announcing my resignation from the wizard rock "scene".

HOWEVER! Life for this Scottish dragon doesn't necessarily have to end here. In fact, I have an opportunity to ditch my tie, and stand on my own in an original series.
Though I'm not sure I want to go it alone... Therefore, I'm leaving it up to you:

P.S. Somebody *cough*Nefret*cough* totally didn't completely misspell Alex Carpenter's name, FYI. It's ...er... completely intended to be that way... We just added the suffix "-ure" to create a new word. As in "rapture". Or "nomenclature". Alex Carpenture.
...Hey, if "bootylicious" can get accepted into the Oxford English Dictionary, why not?

Hello, wizard rock scene, and happy 7/7/'07--the most magical day of the year!
If you haven't realized it yet, as of today, only two weeks remain before the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final installment of the epic adventure that has touched our lives, inspired us to create, and engrained itself into our hearts.
While many people are looking at this event as the end of an era, I prefer to look at it, also, as the beginning of a brand new chapter for all of us involved in the wizard rock movement. July 21st will pave the way for an era of music with a source of inspiration that is complete and focused, rather than one that leaves everybody hanging.
That being said, I'd like to embrace the closure of our fan base's current chapter of existence and celebrate our future by taking a moment to reflect on the wizard rock scene thus far and show appreciation for the brilliant creative minds who have rocked their way into our hearts.
To kick things off, I'd like to invite each and every one of you to show your love for your favorite wizard rockers, via a Facebook questionairre. I'm asking YOU who your favorite wizard rocker is, and why. Head on over to my Facebook account (you will have to register an account and add me) and MAKE YOUR OPINION HEARD! I will be compiling all the answers I receive into a virtual tribute to all the wizard rockers who have brought smiles to our faces and filled up at least a quarter of the space on our iPods.

I understand that you folks may have read Nefret's recent public statement about my alleged infidelity:

Anyone who has friended either Rocky (our mascot) or myself on FaceBook knows that we are married. I have been faithful to Rocky, infact I have beating people off with a stick, turning down dates left, right, and center! Whereas Rocky, this sites mascot Rocky, my husband Rocky has not returned the favor. I SAW ROCKY KISSING SOME SWEDISH SHORTSNOUT! So Rocky we are through, over, no more and Rocky we no longer require your services for this site, good bye.

Alright. So here's the real deal:
I was minding my own business, munching on some Abraxan pie, when Hagrid suddenly appears out from nowhere, with the bright idea to try mating me with a Swedish Shortsnout in an attempt to create some sort of new dragon hybrid. So, being the upstanding, gentlemanly dragon that I am, I turned to the gigantic oaf, and politely explained that I am already in a committed relationship, and although I am flattered by his interest in my far superior genetics, he would have to settle for another Ridgeback, to follow through with his breeding experiment. Besides, Sally the Swedish Shortsnout has been around the Forbidden Forest a couple times (if you catch my drift), and I'd like my breath to be the only thing that burns.
Feeling rather proud of my high-moraled approach to such an awkward situation, I picked a handful of wildflowers, and went searching for Nefret, so I could surprise her with a "hey, I was just thinking of you" gift. That was when I saw Nefret kissing Fred Weasley behind the whomping willow tree.
Feeling utterly distraught, I flew over to Hagrid's, to drown out my sorrows in a tub of firewhiskey (because despite his uncouth ideology when it comes to dragon breeding, he's got a shoulder large enough for me to cry on).
Well... Sally was there. And you can't really expect a Shortskank to see a broken-hearted guy without offering herself up to cheer him up (although, you know, I'd have settled just as easily with some chocolate or something). Anyway, she planted a big wet one on MY lips. I, however, DESPITE BEING COMPLETELY BROKEN-HEARTED, held my ground, and told Sally to go fly (literally). Unfortunately, Nefret showed up only long enough to see the beginning of the snogging incident, and ran off before I got a chance to detach myself from the snout that was trying to devour my face.

So there you have it: I'm honestly a good guy. I'm just simply irresistable to the ladydragons.

   Hello, WizardRock.Org readers!
I'm just here to remind everyone of WizardRock.Org's first ever ALL-MEDIUM wizard rock contest!
As April Fool's Day (and the birthday of mischeif connoisseurs, Fred and George Weasley) rushes in, those of us at WizardRock.Org have become inspired to do something fun, twisted, and totally off-the wall, and are celebrating mischeif and meyhem ALL SEASON LONG. And what better way to include our visitors in this season-long tribute to madness, than to hold an ALL-MEDIUM contest and let imaginations run wild?
We want to see your twisted take on the following scenario:
What would happen if your favorite wizard rock band met their namesake?

Tell us (or show us!) what you think would happen! Contest submissions may be submitted in any creative medium of your choice, including (but not limited to): artwork, comic strips, fan fictions, essays, podcasts or spoken skits, songs, or videos.

The Rules :

  1. First and foremost: size doesn't matter (that much). Yes. I'm going to be extremely liberal here and accept submissions of all sorts: great and small, because tight time and size limitations really cramp up creativity.

Of course...if your submission is SO freakin' ridiculously honkin' ginormous that it breaks my computer, I'll disqualify it. But that will be really hard to do since my computer is totally magical. So...er...yeah. Just have some common sense and decency when it comes to the size of your entry... Have fun, get as carried away as you wish, and be creative!
  2. Keep the subject material of all submissions PG-15 or under, so that we don't have to bother with those obnoxious "18+" warnings for legal purposes.
  3. Contest entries may feature any wizard rock band of your choice.
  4. Contest entries of any creative medium will be accepted.
  5. All questions in regards to this contest or your particular entry should be sent to me, either via MySpace message or e-mail.
  6. Submit all entries to: wizardrocking@yahoo.com .
  7. The contest deadline is Saturday, the 12th of May 2007, at 11:59 PST (Los Angeles Time).

So... on that note, I'd like to remind you to: have fun, be inventive, manage mischeif, and rock and ROAR!

Spring Break is right around the corner... I awoke from my month-long hibernation a couple of weeks ago, to the feeling of warm sunlight pouring over my back-scales, the sounds of birds chirping throughout the Forbidden Forest, and the smell of...er...some seventh-years brewing some magical herbs behind one of Hogsmeade's tea shops.
All the kids seemed to be pretty psyched about Spring Break (WHOOO!). I thought my Spring Break schedule (which consisted primarily of eating, sleeping, eating, rocking, eating, roaring, and pooping) was pretty packed to the gills...but the kids at Hogwarts seem to have one-upped me in that department (what, with their weekend trips to Paris and oodles of wizard rock concerts to attend). Maybe I'll add some more things to my Spring Break to-do list: things like Grindylow-spelunking and learning to play the triangle.
Grindylow-spelunking is pretty awesome (because I have really big feet, so grindylows make really loud "spelunk!"s upon squishage). However...nothing would make me happier than to be able to actually hit up a wizard rock concert.
It seems to me that just about every wizard rock band on the planet as of late has been booking shows from now all the way into summer! Harry and the Potters have gigs set up from now through July, and Whompy's booked well into August! However, the band I'd love to see the most LIVE would probably have to be Draco and the Malfoys. Regardless of the fact that these Gryffindor colors don't run (except when my mom accidentally sticks my tie in with a white load--boy, that's a doozy), nothing gets me headbangin' quite like some good, old-fashioned evil wizard rock. Draco from the future and Draco from the future-future have totally got it going on.
   Merlin help me... I think I've got myself a man-crush. :O

   Hello, Wizard Rockers!
We're almost three weeks into the year 2007, and with my hectic agenda of rocking and roaring and eating and hibernating, I've fallen a bit behind in my New Year's Resolutions. I decided to create a list of things I want to accomplish this year.
Rocky's 2007 New Year's Resolutions

Unfortunately, my first few goals are probably going to take a while to do. However, the very last one seems like a cinch, and I'd like to set that goal for myself--and I need YOUR help!
Please help me make it to 1,000 MySpace friends!
As a token of my gratitude, I will be offering a magical personalized photo with me, Rocky, to my 1,000th MySpace friend! (No need to worry about location!-- Ashe has mastered the "art" of magical digital photo development--and can magick me into any digital photo you throw my way).
And, because I can't forget my friends who have already added me before I set this goal--I'm giving you guys a chance to win, too! Refer your friends to my MySpace page, and tell them to mention you once I add them back. If you refer the lucky person who becomes my 1,000th MySpace friend, then you each will score a totally unique, personalized, dragon-approved photo with me!

Remember, my MySpace is at: myspace.com/rockythewizardrockridgeback. Hope to see you there! :D

Just out of curiousity, WizardRock.Org wants to know: between Paul (Harry and the Potters), Joe (Harry and the Potters), Brian (Draco and the Malfoys) and Bradley (Draco and the Malfoys), who would win in a big guitar-smashing, chair-throwing, wand-misusing, sucker-punching, wizard-rock fight?
Make your opinion count! Head on over to www.wizardrock.org, and VOTE! (The poll can be found in the sidebar on the right-hand side of the page.)

Disclaimer: WizardRock.Org does not condone actual wizard rock fist-fighting or avada-kedavraing. This poll is for entertainment purposes only. And because cheesy wrestling shows have rotted Nefret's brain.

I remember the first time I ever listened to PotterCast. You know, I used to laugh at those crazy muggle-born kids and their "iPods"...that is, until just the other day, when I decided to see what all the hype was about. I managed to get my claws on one of those bizarre muggle contraptions (including custom-made "Extendable Earbuds" from a certain joke shop I love to order from). It wasn't long before I discovered the world of podcasting. There aren't a whole lot of podcasts out there specifically tailored for dragons and other magical folks, so PotterCast quickly worked it's way to my heart (as did the barbecued hippogriff I had eaten for breakfast that morning--ugh, talk about acid reflux!).
Before I listened to my first PotterCast episode, I never would have imagined how anybody could spend over an hour talking about that Potter kid (Harry's a pretty cool guy and all, but his own podcast??). Amazingly enough, however, PotterCast did it--and rather well, I might add!
Sue is quite possibly the most interesting Hufflepuff I've ever listened to. She and Melissa always have awesome theories. And John is--well--he's...John. It was love at first click... I'm proud to admit to being a PotterCast addict. John has even inspired me to cut back on the hippogriff content in my diet, and switch to Chipotle burritos. Awesome things, those burritos. In fact, the only complaint I have is the fact that the PotterCast trio doesn't talk enough about us dragons. We're pretty interesting creatures, you know. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing anybody do a dragon-themed podcast before (hint, hint). Regardless, PotterCast is, and will always be, the #1 podcast in my heart -- dragon's honor.

Hello, everyone! It's me, Rocky -- official spokesdragon for WizardRock.Org!

I've never kept an online journal before, and I'm not quite sure what to type here... so, let's get down to the basics: I finally managed to set up one of these LiveJournals (as well as a MySpace profile) for myself (hey, YOU try hooking up a DSL connection in a cave on top of a hill)! Typing isn't particularly easy with three-inch claws, but I'm getting the hang of it. It's too bad I ate my house elf...I could certainly use some assistance filing these things down.

Anyway, I'll be here, voicing my opinions on the latest in wizard rock. And adding people (I love the people). If you are in a wizard rock band, a fan of wizard rock, or even just wizard rock-curious, feel free to add me!

Until next time...
Rock n' roar!
